Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley (BICSV) provides services for seniors who have sustained a brain injury. In Fiscal Year 2018, BICSV clients aged 55 and older represented 38% of the people we served.

From 2006 to 2010, falls were the leading cause of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), accounting for 40% of all TBI’s in the United States that resulted in an Emergency Department visits, hospitalization or death. Falls disproportionately affect the youngest and oldest age groups.

Geriatric or Senior brain injury case management involves:

  • The brain injury community
  • Education
  • Awareness
  • Resource dissemination, and
  • Coalition participation
